Built in the 19th century this former smugglers headquarter on the Spanish-
Portuguese border offers stunning views towards the Serra de Sao Mamede Natural
Park in Portugal. Four Unesco world heritage sites to visit: Castle of Marvao in Portugal,
Evora in Portugal and historic towns of Caceres and Merida in Spain. What else? Golf
course, Natural swimming pool, horse riding, walking in the natural park on sign-
posted footpaths, biking or bird watching (protected bird area) and much more...Our
guesthouse is situated 10 km. from Valencia de Alcantara at the end of the little village
of La Fontanera, directly on the border with Portugal. Just getting to this small 19th
century rural house is a pleasure in itself, as it involves passing through some lovely
gentle countryside and hills.
Once there, however, the visitor will surely not be disappointed, for this is a
wonderfully restored accommodation with the added bonus of having some unique
characteristics. Firstly, it is slap bang on the Spanish Portuguese border.
You can literally come in from the Spanish side and walk out through the other doors
onto the magnificent Sao Mamede Natural Park in Portugal.
We have 3 double rooms with bathrooms, accompanied by a lovely terrace and garden
with swimming pool. Our guesthouse boasts a family atmosphere, with a breakfast and
dining room and a sitting room complete with fireplace. A continental breakfast is
included. The whole house is very rustic and authentically 'rural`.We also have a self-
catering apartment available for 2-5 guests. Two double bedrooms with ensuite
bathrooms and a dining-room. The apartment is of course furnished, including a
kitchen, with oven and hob, hot water, toaster, kettle, dishes and cutlery. The heating
is powered by a wood-burning stove and electric radiators. Accompanied by a lovely
terrace and garden with a small swimming pool.Enjoy summer evenings on the
romantic terrace and listen to the quiet and peace of this place.In personal atmosphere
we offer 2 BaB bedrooms with private bathrooms, with breakfast included and lunch or
dinner if you wish. We offer vegetarian food as well as spanish specialities. Of course
you have your coffee- and tea-facilities.
Or, to be more independent, you stay in our self-catering apartment, for 4-5 guests,
with kitchen, dining-room. It is of course furnished, including a kitchen, with oven and
hob, micro-wave, hot water, toaster, coffeemaker, kettle, dishes and cutlery. The
heating is powered by a wood-burning stove and electric radiators.
The finca is about 150 years old, beautifully restored in 1998 but very rustic and
authentically rural.
Our lovely terrace with small swimming-pool will round up a beautiful stay in the
amazing nature of the Extremadura.We are family-friendly. Your children stay for free
in an extra bed in the parents bedroom. We have a baby-bed available as well as a
high-chair and a bottle-warmer and there are loads of toys including a tricycle and
scooter.
Dogs are welcome without any extra charge.
