Huelva, the most western region of Andalucia, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Algarve holiday region in Portugal, is best known for the long pristine sands of the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) which journeys into the neighbouring region of Cadiz. Though the majority of tourists will not venture far from the unspoilt golden sandy beaches, Huelva is a region of many different faces which are worth exploring.
From your holiday rental on the Costa de la Luz, travel to the Parque Nacional de Donana, home to the European Lynx (an endangered species) and the Spanish Imperial Eagle. The park is an important wetland area home in winter to many migrating birds.
Christopher Columbus set sail from La Rabida on his voyage to the west and discovered the Americas. Further inland you will find the mountains of Aracena and the wine making region of Candado.
Huelva is still a relatively unspoilt region and so offers a quieter holiday more suitable for families or couples wishing to explore. Costa de la Luz holiday rentals are the primary source of self catering accommodation in Huelva, though there are hotels and paradors throughout the region.
