This ancient building has existed for centuries with a history dating back to 70AD and the Roman conquest. For seven centuries from the 8th until the 15th, Castillo de Lachar was under Muslim control and during the 12th century it became a sanctuary for the many Kings of Granada.
A year before the Conquest of Granada in 1492 when the Moorish influences and control were lost to the Christians, the Palace and the village of Lachar were virtually burnt to the ground. The Palace was rebuilt by Count Julian in 1437 giving it the “One Thousand and One Nights” theme it is renowned for today and over the centuries the magnificent palace has been expanded in several phases.
There are a choice of terracotta roof terraces from which guests can enjoy the views of the Spanish countryside or simply soak up the Andalucian sunshine. The Palace also boasts an outdoor swimming pool complete with sun loungers and in the old stables quarter, there is a bar suitable for unwinding with a long drink or a beer.
Beautifully designed with many, many Moorish details including intricate detailing around the room and also on the ornate headboard. This stunning suite comes complete with luxury ensuite bathroom plus a small area to make tea and coffee. It is located on the ground floor in the main palace building.
Located in the small, pretty Spanish village of Lachar in the province of Granada is the majestic El Castillo de Lachar. This historical palace is one of Andalucia’s greatest landmarks and offers a whole treasure trove of Moorish and Arabic influences as well as many ancient artefacts that fill the beautiful castle rooms and corridors. This truly inspirational example of old architecture would appeal to anyone who just loves traditional Spain.
The village of Lachar is located just outside of Granada and whilst it is not aimed at the typical British tourist, like any small town it has a number of local restaurants serving tapas and Spanish specialities for locals. There are also a small selection of bars which usually stay open fairly late and a couple of small supermarkets.
Granada is a magical and historical city which attracts thousands of tourists every year and is steeped in much history and tradition. With an ornate mixture of old and new this fasinating place has many areas of interest to visit. The first and foremost being the Alhambra Palace which dates back to the times of Muslim control and offers a beautiful façade of baroque design. There is also the San Juan de Dios Church, Aljibe de San Miguel Arab Baths and Granada Cathedral.
Granada also offers a whole host of shops from clothing and furniture to knick-knack stores for tourist trinkets. The many winding and narrow cobbled streets with their Arabic and Moorish features have a host of secret restaurants and cafes where people can enjoy the hustle and bustle of Granada or simply relax and watch the world go by.
Countryside lovers will enjoy visiting the Sierra Nevada mountains which are one of Andalucia’s most well kept secrets. Just a short drive away this natural wonder is also a national park and provides a home to a vast selection of birds and animals. The Sierra Nevada mountains are more famous for their superb skiing resort however other activities which can be enjoyed include walking, hiking, bird watching, camping, fishing and horse riding.
