La Herradura
The beautiful bay of La Herradura set betwe en the natural headlands of Punta de la Mona & Cerro Gordo, protect a two kilometre long beach with its clear aquamarine water, which has led to a lively diving trade. Kyaks, windsurfers & jet skis can be hired & there is also paragliding from the cliffs above the town. Through out the length of the bay you will find a number of chiringuitos (beach bars). To the east of La Herradura is the recently built marina development of Marina Del Este, it is set in a beautiful location with an adjoining beach & a number of quayside bars & restaurants.The winding road leading down to the marina has breath taking views at every turn. Life in Marina Del Este is very relaxed and easy going and a perfect place for sitting at one of it’s quayside restaurants watching the yachts sail by. On the far western side of the huge Cerro Gordo headland lies the last beach in the Costa Tropical & the most isolated. It has been designated a nudist beach although the western end is normally occupied by partially dressed sun worshippers. There are a couple of good beach bars / restaurants open through out the summer. Nerja
Nerja is situated on a low cliff with a number of sandy coves scattered along its front. Despite tourist development, most of the buildings are low rise & the urbanisation has been well designed. The centre has a number of pretty streets linked together by Plazas. The main attraction in the town is the Balcon de Europa, a tree lined promenade jutting out into the sea with lovely views along the coast & to the inland mountains. Further east is the popular beach of Burriana. There are bars, beach bars, restaurants & shops galore through out Nerja. Just to the north of the town are the world famous Nerja caves which were accidently found by a group of schoolboys in 1959. They are now a national monument. The limestone caves with their stalactites & stalagmites are awe inspiring & well worth a visit.
